Web Site Evaluation

Louvre Museum

The web site that I chose to evaluate was the Louvre museum site. The title of the web site is “Louvre.” The URL of this site is www.louvre.fr/llv/commun/home_flash.ssp?bmlocale=en. The date in which this site was established was nineteen ninety five. I personally visited the sit on February 15, 2006. Basically the site was fully of all sorts of information pertaining to the museum and events associated with it. The purpose of the site is to give out information on the museum and activities that have to do with the museum so that hopefully more people will know what they have to offer and will go sometime. For example, the main page has many links off it such as Museum, Collection, Exhibition, Auditorium, Resources, and Visit. If you scroll to the Museum link you will find the Overview, Virtual tour, History of the Louvre, Gardens, Books, DVD’s and CD-ROMs, about the Louvre, and last but not least Tenders and contacts. Just through going through these links you can really learn about the museum and the way it works. Then if you need more info about going to the museum you just go to visit and there are locations and entrances, opening hours, admission fees, aids, interactive floor plans, groups, disabled visitors, and online tickets and store. This information from these links basically tells you what you need to know if you are interested in visiting this place. I mean it had everything from the way to get into the building to how much it was going to cost and also the times that they are in operation.
I feel that people that like to go to museums and see things are going to be the ones that will benefit from this web site. Also it is very good if a teacher wants to set up some sort of field trip to the museum because of easy access for all and they have someone that will respond to you with you questions.
All the links on the site are very straight forward and over in the corner they had a place where you could search for something in particular, therefore saving time if you had a specific thing to find. The text and graphics were good because in certain links you could actually go through the museum online which I thought was convenient. There was a great consistency through out the whole site. All the pages where typed out very similar and a lot of the same colors for the boarders. If I was in charge of this website I would probably change the text and color of things a little but other wise I think its layout is very excellent. The one thing that I didn’t like and really isn’t much you can do to change was that the site is so similar to every other site for museums. I would have to say if isn’t very unique at all but very informational.
